Europe backpacking trip – needs recs for Italy, Denmark, and Sweden!
Europe Backpacking Adventure: Requesting Recs for Italy, Denmark, and Sweden
Planning a solo backpacking journey through Europe this March and seeking recommendations for specific destinations. I’m a 32-year-old woman traveling alone for the first time on this kind of itinerary. While I’m an experienced traveler, this will be my first extended trip solo, so I’m especially interested in authentic, off-the-beaten-path ideas that suit a self-guided adventure.
What I’m hoping to discover
- Classes and hands-on experiences: I’m drawn to creative and cultural activities such as art, craft, or skill-based workshops. A memorable experience I’ve had before is a kintsugi class with locals in Japan that was conducted entirely in Japanese, and I’d love similar immersive opportunities.
- Must-do hikes and nature experiences: Scenic outdoor activities that showcase the region’s beauty.
- Unique food suggestions: Local eats or dining experiences that aren’t likely to appear in a basic Internet search.
- Beyond museums: Activities and experiences that are fun and engaging, filling downtime with something memorable.
Itinerary and destinations
- Start in Rome with an immediate train to Cinque Terre
- Train to Florence
- Train to Venice
- Fly to Amsterdam (If needed to trim the trip, Amsterdam is the likely cut, since I have friends who can travel there with me on a future trip)
- Fly to Copenhagen
- Train to Stockholm
I’d greatly appreciate concrete recommendations, including neighborhoods to stay in, best seasonally appropriate activities, less-touristy eateries or markets, and any tips for solo travelers navigating these regions. If you have personal experiences or lesser-known gems, please share. Thank you for your guidance!
