Is the Beach Swimable in Costa Mujeres, MX? Choosing Between Secrets Playa Mujeres and Akumal for a November Getaway

Planning a two-week Riviera Maya adventure for mid-November, with a resort-hopping mindset for the second stay. Secrets Maroma is the first choice, and for the second resort I’m weighing Secrets Playa Mujeres versus Akumal. My preference is ocean swimming over pooling, and I’m not typically drawn to the beach at Playa Blanca or Akumal’s shoreline because:

  • I rarely see images or videos of people actually enjoying the open ocean at Playa Blanca.
  • Akumal’s beach tends to be small and crowded, which can limit a good swimming experience.
  • Red flag days are sometimes noted for Playa Blanca, which raises safety and accessibility concerns.

If you’ve visited either destination, especially in November, I’d appreciate any observations or insights on ocean conditions, visibility, currents, crowds, and overall swimability. Any firsthand feedback to help me decide which resort offers a more enjoyable ocean swimming experience would be greatly valued.
