International travel destinations for young families

Title: Finding Family-Friendly International Destinations for Young Kids

Planning a multi-country adventure with a toddler and a preschooler can be an exciting challenge. Our experience took us to Italy when our daughter was about 14 months old, and the trip was wonderfully rewarding. It offered opportunities to try new foods, encourage early walking, and explore at a comfortable pace without feeling overwhelmed. The hospitality we encountered was outstanding, with locals who were kind, accommodating, and supportive of traveling families.

As we look ahead to 2027, we’re seeking international destinations that are well-suited for a child around 14 months to about four years old (allowing a few months’ flexibility). Potential ideas on the table include Tokyo, a bucket-list destination for both my husband and me, and Thailand, though we’re very open to other recommendations as well.

We’d love to hear from others about:
– Your favorite family-friendly destinations
– Suggestions on neighborhoods or accommodations that are stroller- and family-friendly
– Kid-friendly activities, playgrounds, museums, and parks
– Practical tips for traveling with a toddler and a preschooler (food, transport, safety, routine)
– Where you stayed, what you explored, and what worked well for your family

If you’ve had success traveling with young children to any international locale, please share your experiences and recommendations. Your insights could help shape a memorable and enjoyable trip for families like ours.
