About to leave for a 6-week solo trip and already feeling exhausted. Any advice?

Title: Navigating a 6-Week Solo Adventure When Exhaustion Looms

A few hours from departure, I’m about to embark on a roughly six-week journey, but instead of feeling excitement, I’m utterly exhausted and overwhelmed. Here’s the situation I’m navigating and what I’m hoping to learn from others who’ve been in a similar place.

Context and plan
– I live abroad on my own. My route starts with a short visit to my home country, followed by work in China, and then I’ve extended the trip for some sightseeing. The plan is to continue to Japan in mid-November.
– I was originally supposed to be accompanied by a family member in late November, which would have meant not traveling entirely solo. When those plans fell through, I realized I’d be alone for the entire duration.
– I’ve already shortened the trip multiple times: initially around December 20, then to the 15th, and now aiming for the 11th. I’m contemplating further shortening, but I fear regret if I don’t push through.

My experience and feelings
– I’m no stranger to solo travel: I travel frequently for work and often extend trips to explore. Still, this is the longest solo journey I’ve undertaken.
– A large portion of this year has been spent traveling (roughly a third to half), and while I love discovering new places, I’ve learned I also greatly value home routines, time with friends, and familiar comforts.
– I identify as neurodivergent, which can color the travel experience in unique ways.
– I’m currently in a mild depressive period, which amplifies the challenge: tasks and plans I anticipated with enthusiasm feel like obligations, and motivation is hard to muster.
– Part of me hopes I’ll feel better once I’m there, but another part wants to return home before I even depart. I’m grateful for the opportunities, yet I worry about the limited time I have to adjust or change plans if needed.

Questions I’m hoping to answer
– Have others experienced a similar wave of pre-trip exhaustion before a long solo journey? Did the fatigue ease once you started traveling, or did it prompt shortening your trip?
– How do you distinguish between pre-trip anxiety and a genuine need for a break?
– What practical strategies helped you manage overwhelm, especially when you’re traveling alone and facing a longer-than-usual stretch?

If you’ve been in a comparable situation or have wisdom to share, I’d love to hear how you navigated the early stages of a big solo trip, what helped you regain momentum, and any signs that indicated it was time to adjust plans.
