Our 18-day Vietnam itinerary runs from November 24 to December 11, featuring Hanoi, the Ha Giang Loop, and Lan Ha Bay, with potential stops in Ninh Binh and Ho Chi Minh City. The plan is to close the trip with a few relaxing beach days. Originally, we booked four nights in Phu Quoc (December 7–11), but we’re exploring a switch to five nights on Koh Rong, which would provide four full days there. Since our flight home from Hanoi departs on December 11 at 1:00 PM, we’ll need to account for travel time back to Hanoi.

What we’re seeking
– Activities: swimming, snorkeling, enjoying good food, and unwinding.
– Preferences: clean beaches and comfortable, clean accommodations.
– Vibe: not isolated from tourism, but not a crowded tourist trap either. We prefer a setting with natural surroundings and local life rather than theme parks or faux European towns.
– Environment: a balance of beach access, some local culture, and minimal signs of over-tourism.

Phu Quoc options
For Phu Quoc, we’re weighing Ong Lang and Gành Dầu:
– Ong Lang: Appears to offer a better mix of beach access and dining options.
– Gành Dầu: Might be quieter and more local, potentially less developed.

Considerations and comparisons
– Experience: How do the quieter parts of Phu Quoc stack up against Koh Rong in terms of beach cleanliness, snorkeling opportunities, food quality, prices, and overall atmosphere?
– Time vs. payoff: Phu Quoc seems easier to integrate into the itinerary. Is the extra travel to Koh Rong worth it if the beach experience is significantly better?
