Where to spend Christmas in Europe (Rotterdam as base)
Where to Spend a Christmas in Europe Starting from Rotterdam
Planning a European Christmas: Our Starting Point in Rotterdam
A family of four is exploring festive destinations across Europe for the holiday season. Rotterdam will serve as our base, with Rome originally on the radar but increasingly expensive flights from the Netherlands during Christmas prompting us to consider appealing alternatives.
What we’re looking for
– A destination with a strong Christmas atmosphere: cozy towns, festive markets, beautiful holiday lights and decorations, and perhaps a snowy backdrop.
– Travel options from Rotterdam: easy train connections or reasonably priced flights.
– A new experience: we’ve already visited Belgium and Germany this year, so we’d prefer somewhere different.
– Trip type: family travel for four (no children traveling separately).
We’re seeking recommendations from travelers who have spent Christmas in Europe and loved the experience. It’s not just about the cheapest or closest option; if a location was a bit of a hassle to reach but felt truly magical for Christmas, tell us about it. And if Rome is worth the extra cost and effort at Christmas, please share that perspective as well—we’re still weighing whether to go there.
