The best 2w “dream trips” to take the chance of doing when living in the US (that are harder to visit when you live in Europe)
The Best 2-Week Dream Trips to Consider While Living in the US (Harder to Visit from Europe)
Planning a special birthday gift for my wife, I’m seeking two-week trips that feel truly special and memorable. We currently reside in New York City, with a likely European move in the coming years, so the focus is on destinations that are more convenient to reach from the US. While North America is a clear option, we’re also open to Central and South America, and even far-off places like Polynesia or New Zealand, as these are relatively easier to access from the US today than from Europe.
Timing: Flexible between February and June next year.
What we’re avoiding
– We’ve already explored Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Colombia, Costa Rica, and California, and while we’d happily revisit parts of those regions, we’re seeking something new this time.
– Southeast Asia, though fantastic, doesn’t hold the same draw for a trip planned from the US because it’s easy to reach from Europe as well.
What we love
– Food, drink, and vibrant cities
– Stunning nature and outdoor scenery
– Ocean swimming, hiking, and wine tasting
– We are active and fit, but not looking for extreme, fully remote, tent-only adventures
– A blend of adventure with some comfort, including 1–2 nights in a luxury hotel
Favorite past experiences
– Japan: the vibes, cuisine, drinks, and the contrast of Tokyo, Kyoto, and relaxing mountain escapes
– Brazil: beautiful beaches and jungles
– Mexico: Mexico City’s culture plus Pacific-side beaches and outdoor activities
– Dolomites: memorable hiking
– France/Italy: Mediterranean swimming, summer liveliness, and overall enjoyment of live experiences
Possible directions I’m considering (two-week itineraries)
– Patagonia (Chile or Argentina): a hiking-focused adventure in breathtaking landscapes
– Hawaii: a combination of beaches, culture, and active exploration
– US road trip: iconic landscapes in Utah/Arizona, with a balance of hiking and comfort
What I’m asking for
– Among these three options, which do you think best fits a two-week, February–June window from the US, prioritizes ease of access given a likely move back to Europe, and satisfies a mix of culture, food, nature, and light adventure?
– Or, if you have other compelling destinations within reach from the US that offer a similar mix of experiences and are less likely to be easily feasible from Europe, I’d love to hear them.
If you have recommendations, must-see highlights, or sample 14-day itineraries that balance activity with comfort, please share. We’re aiming for a trip that feels truly special and memorable for a milestone birthday.
